IAS and IPS officers are equally responsible for maintaining the rules, protocols, and laws in the various regions of India. Both the officers have equal respect in society as they play roles efficiently while serving the nation. Although the role of IAS and IPS officers is pivotal, IPS salary is different from IAS salary. Also, their salary depends on their designation and post.
Salary of IAS officers
An IAS officer is the highest-paid person in the government sector because of the involvement of immense challenges in their job and duties.
IAS officers’ salaries are currently based on the 7th Pay commission, which accounts for Rs. 56100 monthly. This figure is the basic salary of a fresher. Furthermore, it is added with allowances such as DA, TA, and HRA.
DA = Dearness Allowance
TA = Travel Allowance
HRA = House Rent Allowance
This basic pay increases with the experience; however, IAS officers at the post of Cabinet Secretary have a fixed basic pay of Rs. 2,50,000.
Therefore, the gross salary of an IAS officer is the sum of the basic pay, DA, TA, and HRA amount.
Moreover, the DA, TA, and the HRA account for around 8 to 24 per cent of the basic IAS officer salary. And if an IAS officer gets official accommodation, the HRA is not credited in the gross salary.

However, this salary is only the basic pay scale for freshers affixed with allowances such as DA, TA, and HRA (only if the department does not provide the residential service).
Furthermore, the IPS officers have the right to get leave travel concessions which can be used thrice in the four-year period. IPS officers can use this concession to travel to home town.
And for vacations, this concession can be used once in a four-year period through which they can travel anywhere in India.
Along with the basic pay, IPS officers get allowances such as deluxe and lavish accommodations depending on their rank, department vehicles with proper security, and admissibility to study for upto four years in India as well as abroad.
Also, they can get free electricity, telephone amenities, and municipal water supply, medical benefits, etc.
